Defense For Underage DUI And Zero Tolerance Violations

Young drivers do not get leniency when it comes to drinking and driving. In fact, the law cracks down harder on under-21 drivers. In addition to criminal penalties and driver’s license sanctions, an underage DUI can hamper a young person’s opportunities in higher education and employment.

The legal team at Ryan L. Beasley are experienced DUI defense attorneys in Greenville. We regularly defend college students and high school students in Greenville County and the Upstate region of South Carolina who face charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

DUI For College Students And Under-21 Drivers

Under South Carolina law, drivers below the legal drinking age are subject to the “zero tolerance” blood alcohol threshold — basically any alcohol in one’s system at the time of arrest.

  • A zero-tolerance offense (.02 BAC or greater) carries an automatic license suspension of three months.
  • Underage drivers with a BAC of .08 or greater are subject to the same DUI penalties that any adult would face.

A conviction for DUI under 21 or zero tolerance can adversely affect college students or recruits (enrollment, scholarships, financial aid, career prospects). Loss of driving privileges can create hardships for students who need to drive to school or work.

Our Intervention Can Make A Difference

We have represented youths and young adults arrested for DUI or zero tolerance violations, including students of Furman University, Greenville Technical College, Bob Jones University, Clemson University, Wofford College and other Upstate colleges. Our focused knowledge of the law and professional relationships with the local prosecutors sometimes leads to dismissed or downgraded charges. We are always prepared to go to court to fight for our clients and their future.

If you (or your son or daughter) are accused of underage drinking and driving, call (864) 679-7777 Ryan Beasley Law, or contact us online.
