Let's Change The Outcome

What is a white collar crime?

When you work in a position of power, you may be constantly under scrutiny. The slightest mistake might be deemed to be a deliberate attempt to misuse that power. Furthermore, any such slip could severely damage your reputation and jeopardize your position. In South Carolina, white-collar crimes are not an uncommon occurrence and as such they are taken very seriously. But what sort of offenses fall into this category and what can you do if you are charged with such a crime?

According to the FBI website, a white-collar crime can be any of a number of frauds that are carried out by government officials or business professionals. These crimes can range from small scale operations for personal gain, to massive conspiracies for the benefit of multiple parties. Whatever the case, these operations can cause considerable financial damage to their victims, so it is little wonder that they are so thoroughly and extensively investigated.

If you are involved in a company that has abused its power, or you are implicated in a white-collar scheme, it could have serious consequences for you, particularly if you are convicted. Unfortunately, it is all too easy to get caught up in an investigation even if you had nothing to do with the crime. Simply by associating with the people involved, you might become a suspect.

Fortunately, all is not lost as your attorney may be able to help you. Although the possible repercussions of being accused of a white-collar crime can be severe, if you act quickly, you may be able to avoid conviction. By standing your ground and ensuring that the court hears your side of the story, there is a chance that you will be able to protect both your reputation and your future.
